Sixth Grade Orientation
When working with the other Harbor Lights marketing team members, I suggested we try a 6th grade orientation, modeled after the 9th grade orientation at the high school.  Unfortunately, I could not fully participate in it's implementation due to my split schedule between the high school and middle school.  However, it was a huge success and will hopefully, continue in the years ahead to help our newest and youngest students transition to middle school.

Viable Curriculum for Pre-Algebra

Georgia Common Core Math Units, Pre-Algebra

I love the collaboration and satisfaction of creating new learning experiences for students that comes with curriculum work.   Several 6th grade - 10 grade math teachers met in August 2014 for a couple of days to define the viable curriculum.  Through this, as well as on-going curriculum development days during the school year, the Pre-Algebra teachers have been implementing and refining inquiry based lessons based on the Common Core Math Standards.  Specifically, we have implemented the Common Core units developed and shared by the state of Georgia, recipients of a $51 million dollar Race to the Top grant.   It's been a pivotal year in my career and look forward to where it will lead our students.
