Shows Professionalism

The teacher can be counted on to hold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality and takes a leadership role with colleagues. The teacher is highly proactive in serving students, seeking out resources when needed. The teacher makes a concerted effort to challenge negative attitudes or practices to ensure that all students, particularly those traditionally underserved, are honored in the school. The teacher takes a leadership role in team or departmental decision making and helps ensure that such decisions are based on the highest professional standards. The teacher complies fully with school and district regulations, taking a leadership role with colleagues.

2019 - 2020

Entering into the second semester of this school year, it is hard understand how much our lives would change. Instead of preparing for parent teacher conferences, we were sent home on March 13, never expecting we would not return for the remainder of the school year.

Fortunately, since I teach at a one-to-one district where all students in grades 6 - 12 are issued a chrome book for educational uses, we were already a step in the right direction. However, being immediately thrown into the role of distance learning instructor proved to be much more difficult than I imagined.  The analogy of building a plane while flying it is exactly the way this new teacher role felt.

While it was challenging, I found ways to be resourceful and provide lessons that could be shared with my students and when shared with other teachers, used for their students as well.  Within a week, my teams of teachers had found ways for all us to share the work and provide the most meaningful instruction possible for our students.

"Meeting" weekly with my students on Google Meet.

I did't have a document camera to help me film videos, so I had to improvise with my phone, some cans, and a shelf from my cupboard.  I have to admit, the videos came out better than I expected!

Teacher Lab (Winter 2014
)

  • Teachers from the high school were invited to observe the inquiry based instruction in my Pre- Algebra classroom
  • This was followed by a discussion about the changes to the Pre-Algebra curriculum for this year as well as the use of interactive student notebooks (ISNs) in my classes.
